Eric Harrison

Partner, Luminous Capital

Eric Harrison, 46, heads Alternative Investments for Luminous Capital and is one of six partners at the firm.  Having spent the vast majority of his career as a principal investor, eight years within venture capital and nine years as a private equity buyout principal, he has developed a valuable network of industry colleagues, intimate knowledge of the investment risks, and a thorough understanding of the due diligence process. The network of contacts enables trust-based reference checks on fund managers under consideration for investment. The respective funds where Mr. Harrison has served as a partner are among the top performing funds in their respective industry, enjoying investment by several dozen of the country’s most respected endowments, foundations, universities, and pension funds.Mr. Harrison earned a B.S. degree in 1986 from the University of Colorado, double majoring in Finance and Accounting, and received an MBA in 1992 from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.From March 2000 to December 2008, Mr. Harrison serves as a Managing Director of GI Partners, a middle market hybrid real estate/buyout firm with approximately $4 billion in capital under management.  He has led a number of investments for the firm and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Telx, having previously served as a Board member for PC Helps, Sunset Gower Studio, and Systems Management Specialists.  In his capacity as an investment principal, he has been involved in all aspects of the business, including deal sourcing, structuring, investment management, fund raising, negotiating investment terms with limited partners, and managing the internal operations of the firm.  GI Partners’ historical track record is in the top quartile of all buyout funds of its vintage year, and received $500 million of investment from CalPERS in each of GI Partners’ three funds.Prior to working at GI Partners, Mr. Harrison served as a Partner at Crosspoint Venture Partners, a venture capital firm that achieved among the top returns in the industry over a 25 year period, as rated by Venture Economics.  Before working at Crosspoint, Mr. Harrison worked at InnoCal Ventures for five years, a regional venture capital firm in Orange County, California. Prior to InnoCal, he worked within business and corporate development at Hewlett-Packard and Ricoh Corporation, respectively.Mr. Harrison serves on the Board of Directors and is actively involved in South Central Scholars, a non-profit that provides scholarships and mentorship to high achieving students from South Central Los Angeles.  He also serves on the Board of Confianza, a microfinance company that provides loans to the Hispanic community in Los Angeles.
