Donald Straszheim

Donald Straszheim is Head of China Research and Senior Managing Director at International Strategy and Investment Group Inc. (ISI). ISI is a boutique all-research firm serving institutional investors worldwide (NYC headquarters).   Straszheim has been with ISI since 2009, works out of Los Angeles, manages the LA and Shanghai offices, and has spent full-time on China for over a decade.    From 1985 to 1997, he was Merrill Lynch’s Global Chief Economist where he was voted to Institutional Investor’s All-Star team for 10 consecutive years.  From 1997 to 2001, he was President of the Milken Institute, a not-for-profit economic think tank, founding the annual Milken Institute Global Conference series.  From 2006 to 2008, he was Vice Chairman of Roth Capital Partners.  From 2002 to 2009, he operated Straszheim Global Advisors, a consultancy with offices in Beijing and Los Angeles.   Earlier in his career, Straszheim was Chief Economist of Wharton Econometrics at the University of Pennsylvania. Don is a Visiting Scholar at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, past President of the CFA Society of LA, and has BS, MS and PhD degrees from Purdue University.  He is a regular writer and commentator on China (economics, markets, policy and finance), travels there extensively, and works out of ISI’s LA office.
