Gus Castellanos

Trainer & Coach, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Agustin (Gus) Castellanos, M.D. attended the University of Miami undergraduate and Miller School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. degree in 1980. He trained at Emory University School of Medicine, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received Board Certification in Neurology in 1987 and in Sleep Medicine in 1994. He was Assistant Professor in Neuro-Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center before relocating to practice Neurology & Sleep Medicine in Palm Beach County, Fl, in 1987. During his medical career Dr Castellanos served as Medical Director of The Sleep Center at Jupiter Medical Center, President of the Florida Society of Neurology, Chief of Neurology at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, and as Co-Director of Jupiter Medical Center’s Stroke Center. He founded and served as Medical Director of Carelink Clinic (volunteer clinic founded with the express purpose to “link” compassionate medical care and humanitarian services, to needy, underserved, uninsured people living in northern Palm Beach County), Founder and Medical Liaison of A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Support Group, Palm Beach County. Dr Castellanos retired from the practice of Medicine in Jan. 2007 to pursue meditation and metaphysical studies. He is a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) & meditation teacher and practitioner, trained by the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. He currently teaches at a variety of facilities and venues throughout South Florida, including the Sari Asher Center for Integrative Cancer Care, University of Miami’s UHealth Fitness & Wellness Center, and the University of Miami’s Neuroscience Lab (the Jha Lab). He has facilitated programs for the US Army, Hospice of Palm Beach County, Jupiter Medical Center, the Hanley Center – a Caron Treatment Center, A New Day Treatment Center and South Bay Correctional Facility. He offers one-on-one coaching on Mindfulness Based Strategies for well-being, enhanced performance and creativity, as well as for stress reduction & relapse prevention. Currently he serves as advisor to Integrative Medicine Department at Jupiter Medical Center and is involved in mindfulness and attention research with the Mindfulness Based Attention Training program at the University of Miami Neuroscience-Jha Lab.
