Mr. Sussis is currently SVP/ director of communications at hedge fund SPM, LLC (Ranked #1 by Bloomberg Markets 2010, Listed in Top 10 of Barron's Top 100 HFs, and winner of Best Fixed Investment Fund 2010 by Absolute Returns). Prior to that he served (2002-2006) as VP of business development. His work has contributed to AUM growth from $600M to $3B. His responsibilities include managing the company’s message; marketing materials; investor calls & conferences; marketing communications; public relations and website.
In the late 1990's to 2000, Mr. Sussis ran an investment group for high net worth individuals. After a successful run, he closed the funds in April, 2000 --thus preserving high double digit investor gains. Prior to this, he was retained by small and large cap companies as well as several pre- IPO companies to advise them on communications, business planning and negotiations. He is a founding member of the New York New Media Angels and currently involved in venture investing.
From 1982-1991 Mr. Sussis was CEO of DASA Inc., a manufacturer that created, branded and licensed high-end designer products--including YSL, Dior and Mary McFadden. From 1972-78, he held a full-time faculty position at The City University of New York/Hunter College in the Dept. of Communication Arts and Sciences. At that time, he founded the college's multi-media lab.
He is a graduate of Queens College of The City University of New York (cum laude, class president) and has graduate degrees from U of Wisconsin, Madison (M.A., communications), and NYU (M.S. interactive media, Tisch School of the Arts). Mr. Sussis has published more than seventy-five articles on business, investment and technology. He is also a two time winner of Ford Foundation Fellowships. For several years he was a contributing columnist at the WSJ online and was the first eCommerce Columnist at Internet.com
Mr. Sussis has served two terms as vice-president of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and has been on the advisory boards of several national charities as well as numerous start-up ventures. He was an early presenter at Tiger21.
