Eric J. Savitz is West Coast Editor at Barron’s, reporting on technology, investing and the financial markets from Palo Alto, California. He writes the Tech Trader column in Barron’s, and the Tech Trader Daily blog on Barrons.com.Mr. Savitz joined Dow Jones in February 1984 as a copy editor for Dow Jones News Service in New York. In 1988, he moved to Barron’s, where he wrote about technology, biotechnology and the stock market. In 1993, Mr. Savitz became mutual-funds editor at Barron’s, editing the magazine’s mutual-fund quarterly special report and writing a weekly column on funds. He moved to California for Barron’s in 1995, establishing the magazine’s first office in Silicon Valley, where he created and wrote the magazine’s “Plugged In” column on technology investing.In 1998, Mr. Savitz left the magazine to become executive editor of the Industry Standard, an Internet business magazine based in San Francisco. After the Standard shut down in 2001, he returned to Barron’s, re-opening the Palo Alto bureau.Mr. Savitz received a B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983, where he served as the managing editor of the Daily Pennsylvanian. Married with three children, He lives in Palo Alto, California.
