Thomas Kraemer

Managing Partner and Co-Founder, Alloy Investments

Tom worked as an equity analyst for eight years at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Sanford Bernstein covering server and enterprise hardware (IBM, HP, EMC, Network Appliance, etc.). Greenwich Associates and Institutional Investor ranked him every year he covered stocks. In 2000, Fortune magazine selected him as one of the best fifteen analysts in the world. Using systematic survey products that he designed, Tom was one of the first analysts to downgrade technology stocks in the summer of 2000. His PhD research also informs Alloy’s strategies. He ran the rapid growth research project at Wharton’s Sol C. Snider Entrepreneurial Center and won a Kauffman Foundation grant to finance this research. His dissertation, entitled “Sustainable Rapid Growth: Why Some Firms Succeed and Others Fail,” focused on how a firm’s intangible assets determine its growth prospects. In addition to a PhD in management from Wharton, Tom earned a BA in economics and German Soviet Relations from Penn, graduated Summa Cum Laude, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Tom is a Fulbright Scholar.
