 John R. Hunter, Attorney/C.P.A., is a partner with THE BLUM FIRM, P.C., a law firm founded in 1980 in Fort Worth, Texas by Marvin Blum. The firm, consisting of twelve attorneys, seven of whom are also Certified Public Accountants, specializes in the areas of planning for closely-held businesses, estate planning and administration, asset protection planning, tax planning, tax controversy and charitable planning.Mr. Hunter received his J.D. Cum Laude in 1992 from the University of Houston Law Center and his Master of Accounting and B.A. in Economics Cum Laude from Rice University in 1988. He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Tax Law. Mr. Hunter has practiced in both the private sector and with the government, where he represented the Commissioner of Internal Revenue before the United States Tax Court. Issues: valuation of closely held corporate stock; lack of control discount for 50% interest.• Siebert v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, T.C. Memo 1997-6, January 2, 1997, Filed. Issues: embezzlement income; unreported income; fraud penalty.• Webb v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue, T.C. Memo 1996-449, October 2, 1996, Filed. Issues: Tax Court jurisdiction; lost statutory notice of deficiency.Mr. Hunter has been honored for the past four years by Texas Monthly magazine as a “Texas Super Lawyer,” a distinction given to only 5% of licensed attorneys in all of Texas. He was also recognized by Fort Worth, Texas magazine as one of Tarrant County’s Top Attorneys in Tax Law for 2008. Mr. Hunter was honored as Professional of the Year in 2009 by the Community Foundation of North Texas. Mr. Hunter and his wife, Carmen, live in Fort Worth with their three children.
