Dr. Douglas was a journalist covering energy for almost a decade with Southam Publishing with the Daily Oil Bulletin where she wrote a weekly column and followed the Canadian industry’s exploration and development successes.  She was asked to launch Petroleum Recovery Week, a weekly newsletter covering the heavy oil and oil sands sectors in Alberta, Venezuela and Russia.  It was the first energy publication in Canada to get subscriptions from OPEC and the Kremlin.  She won the President’s Award for best new publication in 1984. In 1988, Dr. Douglas joined Mobil Oil Canada in the Public Affairs department.  She was promoted to Manager, Public Affairs and was accountable for several of Canada’s largest public consultation programs, including the Hibernia offshore oil project and the Sable Island gas development.  She also worked for Mobil in Norway, Scotland and the U.K.  The company sent her on several assignments to Washington, D.C. to liaise with a number of Asian embassies and governments. Dr. Douglas was appointed Vice President, Public & Government Affairs with Atomic Energy of Canada.  She was hired to help change the opinion of Canadians who had a negative viewpoint on the nuclear industry to one of pride in Canada’s great technological inventions, the CANDU reactor. Dr. Douglas joined the Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada (SEPAC) as that organization’s first Executive Director.  In 2005 she accepted the appointment to President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.  Under her leadership, the Chamber launched a bi-weekly series of opinion editorials in the Calgary Sun and Calgary Herald, which helped shape Calgarians belief that this city could become a renaissance city of the 21st century. In July 2010, Dr. Douglas joined Athabasca Oil Sands Corp. as the company’s Vice President, Communications and External Affairs and serves as the representative on the In Situ Oil Sands Alliance’s (IOSA) management committee. In 2014, Dr. Douglas and Ms. Brownlee launched CEO Platinum Roundtable Inc. Dr. Douglas has won numerous awards for her writing, public affairs programs and international government relations strategies.  She is currently working on her doctorate in political science.  She sits on a number of not-for-profit boards, including the Talent Pool Society of Calgary and the Lougheed House, as a director.
