Brett Hickey, Founder & CEO ofStar Mountain, a SEC registered investment advisor with over $500 million in AUM, is currently raising its 2nd U.S. lower-middle-market fund providing loans to established, lower-middle-market companies that are not backed by traditional private-equity sponsors. Star Mountain is a “value-added lender” where they help business owners with an acquisition, etc that has some complexity, which they get paid for, while keeping leverage low and covenants tight helping drive historically low loss rates of below 1% per year with unlevered returns of over 18%. The objective of the Fund is to provide double digit current income, long-term capital gains and substantial downside protection, through predominately collateralized loans with equity upside to established, growing U.S. businesses that typically have between $3mm and $20mm in annual EBITDA and are not owned by traditional PE funds.
