Jan Stahlberg

Partner, Deputy Managing Partner and Head of EQT Mid Market, EQT

Jan Stahlberg co-founded Northern Europe’s leading Private Equity firm, EQT, in 1994. EQT has raised more than EUR 30 billion across Buyout, Credit, Infrastructure, Real Estate and Venture. Jan is currently the Deputy Managing Partner and nominated Vice Chairman of EQT AB.  He is also the Head of the EQT New York office.  Previously, Jan worked in various operational executive positions at Ovako Steel from 1985 to 1994. During his twenty years at EQT, Jan has had the direct lead partner responsibility for sixteen private equity deals with excellent investment results. He has also been the lead partner in EQT’s most complex restructuring cases, given his long restructuring experience in the steel industry prior to his EQT tenure. Jan graduated from the Stockholm School of Economics with majors in Economic Analysis and Accounting & Finance. His thesis on option pricing theory was selected the best thesis in Sweden in 1985. He also studied in the MBA program at the New York University Stern School of Business. Jan has been lecturing on Private Equity at the Stockholm School of Economics and Stockholm University. He has been a key note speaker and panelist in the European Parliament in Brussels, Harvard Business School and University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, and many others. He is also a frequent speaker at Private Equity Conferences, such as SuperReturn in Berlin and SuperInvestor in Paris. Jan is a member of the EQT Executive Committee, Infrastructure Partners Investment Committee, Mid Market Partners Investment Committee, Mid Market US Partners Committee, Expansion Capital Partners Investment Committee and Greater China Partners Investment Committee. He has also been the Chairman of the EQT Operations Committee, leading Investor Relations, Human Resources, Legal & Compliance, Finance & Tax and IT.  Jan has previously been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board for the EQT Partnership and Chairman for EQT Partners AB.   Jan is the Chairman of the Swedish Chess Academy and is also a board member in Djurgården’s Business Network. Djurgården is a leading ice-hockey and soccer club in Sweden.
