Walter Russell Mead
Mr. Mead is one of the country’s leading students of American foreign policy. His most recent book, Special Providence: American Foreign Policy and How It Changed the World (Alfred A. Knopf; November, 2001) was named as one of ten notable non-fiction books of the year by the Economist and was widely hailed by reviewers, historians and diplomats as an important study that will change the way Americans and others think about American foreign policy. Special Providence won an honorable mention for the 2002 Ross Award given to the best foreign policy book of the year. Mr. Mead writes regularly on international affairs for The Los Angeles Times, where he is a contributing editor, and contributes articles, book reviews and op-eds to leading newspapers and magazines. Mr. Mead is a graduate of Yale.
