Ovidio Diaz Espino

• Ovidio E. Diaz Espino is a lawyer, banker, real estate developer and writer. • Education: Mr. Diaz graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in Political Sciences, from the University of California Berkeley with a Juris Doctor degree, and from Cambridge University with an M.A. and a Masters in International Law. • Lawyer: From 1988 to 1996, he worked as a corporate attorney in New York City, first as an associate attorney at Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells and later as corporate counsel to the emerging markets division of J.P. Morgan & Co. In this capacity, he participated in the restructuring of the sovereign debt of eight developing countries, including Brazil, Russia, Mexico,Peru and Argentina, among others. • Investment Banker: In 1997 he joined Credit Suisse in New York as an investment banker focusing on Latin American markets, and from 2000-2005 he assumed administrative responsibilities when he became a senior manager of Deutsche Bank’s Internet bankingdivision, Maxblue. He was responsible for legal affairs, product development, compliance,government relations and negotiated the sale of Maxblue to Banco do Brasil. • Real Estate: In 2006 he founded a real estate holding company, Isthmian Capital Investments, which today is one of the largest owners of beachfront real estate in Panama, with over 4,000 hectares (10,000 acres) of land, 25 kilometers (16 miles) of coastline with 15beaches. He is currently developing the first sustainable development in Panama on a site thatwill create a 3,000 hectares private nature preserve. • Financial Consultant: In 2008, Mr. Diaz opened Isthmian Financial Advisers, a Panamanian based company that arranges financing for infrastructure and commercial projects in Latin America and advises on mergers and acquisitions. • Author: Mr. Diaz is the writer of a well known book about the beginnings of the Panama Canal titled How Wall Street Created a Nation: J.P. Morgan, Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal. His articles have been published in various magazines and journals. He’s a frequent commentator on CNN and other media about current affairs in Latin America. • Charity: Mr. Diaz serves on the board of New York’s Spanish Theatre Repertoire and of Panama’s BioMuseum. He is a volunteer and contributor to Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity hospices and to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.
