Ceasar Mitchell

Ceasar Mitchell’s life is an intricate weave of values, hard work and experiences that have shaped the person he is today. Ceasar is a third generation Atlantan who has been actively serving the community for over 20 years. Since 2010, Ceasar has served as the 7th President of the Atlanta City Council where he presides over council meetings, makes council committee appointments, and would assume the role as mayor in the event of a vacancy. Prior to serving as Council President, Ceasar was elected to the Atlanta City Council as the Post 1 representative, a citywide position.While a member of council, Ceasar chaired the Public Safety Committee, overseeing more than 50 percent of the city’s General Fund budget; the Community Development and Human Resources Committee, which oversees the economic development activities, and the City Utilities Committee. He is also a past member of the Atlanta Budget Commission, which authorizes the city’s annual revenue anticipation levels.Outside of his service to the City Council, Ceasar is an attorney with the global law firm DLA Piper LLP, specializing in commercial real estate, project finance and public sector transactions. His experience as an attorney allows him to provide pristine strategy and leadership on critical policy matters while simultaneously promoting the interest of the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta City Council nationally.LeadershipThrough the years Ceasar has been a visionary leader and public servant, whose unwavering dedication to creating a better Atlanta is reflected in his commitment to initiatives targeting child safety, community policing, economic development, education and more.  During his career Ceasar championed key legislation facilitating economic revitalization in underdeveloped areas by authoring measures to create 4 of the city’s 10 Tax Allocation Districts and supporting legislation for community input in the Atlanta Beltline Project. Ceasar has remained dedicated and diligent in his commitment to the educational enrichment of Atlanta’s youth. Through his 21st semi-annual College Prep Series, he has helped prepare and inspire over 8,000 middle and high school students to obtain higher education.Planting strategic initiatives into the city structure, with sustainable roots, Ceasar spearheaded the creation of the Parks Advisory Group along with a Clean Green Team, both pushing the city forward to sustain world-class parks and recreation systems within large neighborhoods and the smaller communities.Professional AffiliationsCeasar is actively involved in a number of civic, legal, and community organizations. He is a gubernatorial appointee to the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism, a member of the Board of Visitors for Emory University, and on the Board of Directors for Points of Light. Ceasar also serves as a chair on the National League of Cities’ National City-County Task Force on the Opioid Epidemic and is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Incorporated.Ceasar’s established track record of leadership and commitment to fostering community have been nationally recognized through programs like the American Israeli Political Action Committee; Atlanta’s 100 Most Influential People, and Morris Brown College where he was honored with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.Personal LifeAs the son of a former Atlanta Police Officer and an Atlanta Public Schools teacher, Ceasar’s heart for service was cultivated at a very young age. Ceasar grew up in the Southwest Atlanta community, where he was a product of the Atlanta Public School System. Ceasar is a proud graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School, Morehouse College, and the University of Georgia School of Law. He and his wife, Dr. Tiffany Mitchell, also an educator with the Atlanta Public Schools System, reside in the Historic West End community with their two young daughters, Canon and Czarya. The Mitchell’s are active members of Impact United Methodist Church.
