James Wang

Mr. Wang is the Founder and Chairman of China Alpha Fund Management (HK) Limited. Its flagship fund: China Alpha II Fund specializes in Greater China Long Short equity that focused on delivering absolute return through deep fundamental research and individual security selection. The fund deploys a holistic approach rather than chasing catalysts for investments. The investment philosophy of China Alpha is to allocate resources to strong cash flow companies that create value to the economy and eventually become future industry champions. With its deep local knowledge, the fund has become one of the best absolute return funds in Asia and was awarded as the “Best Emerging Markets Hedge Fund” in 2008 by Lipper Fund Awards.Prior to founding of China Alpha, Mr. Wang has participated in the China equity market since the first public company was listed in the Stock Exchange. His investment career covers the entire development of the Chinese equity market. Not only does he has over 2 decades of extensive experiences in financing and investment, direct investment, asset management, corporate finance, project finance as well as mergers and acquisitions, he was also the CEO of one of the top merchant bank that was being awarded as the “FinanceAsia Best Local Investment Bank Award in Hong Kong”. He was one of the few Chinese investors who has experience in running physical business as an entrepreneur and providing financial service to the entrepreneur in China and Hong Kong.Mr. Wang strives to dedicate to contribute to the financial sector and education in China and Hong Kong. Mr. Wang is the present incumbent Adjunct Professor in the Department of Finance in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lingnan (University) College and a Director of Sun Yat-sen University Education Development Foundation (Guangdong) to promote the concept of a liberal arts education. He is also enthusiastic in philanthropy in education and sponsors “Junyan Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Exchange Research Scholarship Program” organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition, Mr. Wang was awarded a Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree Award from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in recognition of his academic achievements and contribution to the society.Mr. Wang earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade from Zhongshan University in China and subsequently a MSc in Finance at the University of Hong Kong.
