As a nationally recognized expert in urban school-system-reform, Amy is working to provide all young people with high quality educational opportunities in an effort to close the achievement gap. She took the helm of NFTE in 2008 taking on the challenge of scaling this highly effective entrepreneurship education program in order to inspire young people from low income communities to stay in school, recognize business opportunities and plan for successful futures. To date, NFTE has worked with over 375,000 middle and high school students and has certified over 4000 public school teachers to teach this course.In 2011, President Obama appointed Amy to serve as the Vice Chair on the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability and chairs its youth sub-committee. The Council provides recommendations to the President on promoting and enhancing financial literacy and capability among the American people.She is also on the faculty of Columbia Business School and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was a Fellow at the Broad Superintendents Academy.Amy was a founding partner of Public Private Strategy Group (PPSG), where she built the firm’s Education Practice. She has served as an advisor to several Mayors and urban superintendents including Mayor Cory Booker of Newark and former NYC Chancellor Joel Klein, designing strategies and restructuring systems to provide accountability for student outcomes. She was also COO for New Visions for Public Schools, where she reengineered operations and created a new business model for the organization.Previous to her work in this area, Amy spent 20 years in leadership positions in the transportation sector. Her work included running a state department of transportation, a successful private sector start up as well as leadership positions on the Board of Directors of NJ Transit and Amtrak..
