Jack Cogen

Jack D. Cogen, President and CEO (New York), is one of the founders of the Natsource group of companies. As CEO, he has led the transformation of Natsource from its origins as an energy commodity structuring firm to its current status as a leading environmental investment firm and one of the world’s largest private sector greenhouse gas asset managers with over $1.1 billion in assets under management and commitment. Mr. Cogen serves as the Chairman of the Investment Committee. In partnership with Michael Intrator, Mr. Cogen is responsible for developing the overall trading strategies and overseeing the identification, structuring, and execution of transactions for certified emission reductions on behalf of the Fund. Mr. Cogen is the current Chairman of the International Emission Trading Association, a prominent organization that is comprised of over 170 members from the industrial and financial community that have advocated for the use of market mechanisms to address global climate change, and has been a Board member for many years. Mr. Cogen is also a founding officer of the Energy Brokers Association. Mr. Cogen is a regular moderator and speaker at global conferences on the global carbon market and has authored and co-authored a number of studies and reports on the market. In 2004, he was inducted into the Energy Risk Magazine Hall of Fame. Prior to founding Natsource in 1994, Mr. Cogen created and managed the Commodities Group at Euro Brokers Capital Markets, Inc., where he was employed from 1991 to 1994. At Euro Brokers Mr. Cogen built the first OTC natural gas swap brokerage desk. Between 1981 and 1990, Mr. Cogen was employed by The Chase Manhattan Bank (National Association) as Global Risk Manager of the Commodity Risk Management Group. Mr. Cogen held several other risk management positions at Chase, including senior analyst for the Asset/Liability Management Committee and risk manager for the U.S. dollar interest rate cap book. Mr. Cogen is a Board member of the International Emission Trading Association and a founding officer of the Energy Brokers Association. Mr. Cogen is a regular moderator and speaker at global conferences on the global carbon market and has authored and co-authored a number of studies and reports on the market. In 2004, Mr. Cogen was inducted into the Energy Risk Magazine Hall of Fame. Mr. Cogen holds a Masters of Science in Mathematics and a Masters of Business Administration from New York University, and a B.A. from Rutgers College.
