Larry K. Smith

Mr. Smith is Chief Operating Officer of BENS. He served as President and CEO of BENS from 1987 to 1989. In addition, Mr. Smith has held a series of senior positions in Congress and the Dept. of Defense and been active in the academic community. He was Counselor to Secretaries of Defense Les Aspin and William Perry in 1993 and 1994, respectively. From 1989 to 1992, he was Counselor to Les Aspin when he was Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and from 1975, he served on the Senate Armed Services Committee under Chairman John Stennis. He also served as Chief-of-Staff to two U.S. Senators – Tom McIntyre of New Hampshire from 1968 to 1975 and Gary Hart of Colorado from 1978 to 1982.
